Fiberglass utility poles have many benefits. They do not corrode, are easy to transport, and are maintenance- free, among other great qualities. The real world also brings damage and destruction.
A motor vehicle collided with this pole.
Obviously the pole was impacted with enough force to push it fully over onto the ground. The pole buckled at ground level rather than uprooting it’s base.
You can see that the layers of reinforcement were fractured apart from each other as a form of delamination. This deconstruction of the pole allows us to get a sense of the fiber orientation from the original manufacturing process.
